Precipitation and Temperature Summary

Pacific northwest mean temperatures departed +0.3 degrees from normal relative to 1961-1990 normals (31 stations). Mean temperature departures ranged from -3.4 to 4.3 degrees.

Temperatures were below normal across northeast basins and at or above normal elsewhere. Precipitation was above normal across the Cascades and Olympic Peninsula of Washington, eastern

Washington, coastal and northeast sections of Oregon, and northern Idaho panhandle. Below normal precipitation was reported across most other areas.

Other than a few dry days early in the month, early and middle June was generally cool and unsettled. Moderate rain episodes were reported on a few days across the Olympic Peninsula. Otherwise, precipitation was mainly light and most prevalent across northern tier basins. During the end of June, a series of weak weather disturbances brought bouts of light rain to northern tier basins.

The remainder of the region enjoyed mainly dry conditions with high pressure in control.

Record high temperatures reported during the month of June included:

90 at Helena on the 6th, 96 at Helena on the 7th, 95 at Pocatello on the 7th, 90 at Butte on the 7th, 92 at Helena on the 8th, 93 at Brookings on the 15th, 79 at Astoria on the 25th, 81 at Astoria on the 26th, 81 at Hoquiam on the 26th, 85 at Quillayute on the 26th. On the 27th, the following record high temperatures were reported: 89 at Astoria, 99 at Salem, 95 at Eugene, 98 at Portland, 89 at Forks, 86 at Quillayute, 89 at Hoquiam, 82 at Bellingham, 89 at NOAA/Sandpoint (Lake Washington), 88 at Seattle, 88 at McCord AFB, 91 at Olympia, 92 at Toledo, and 80 at Stampede Pass.

Record low temperatures reported during the month of June included:

33 at Helena on the 1st (tie) and 33 at Pocatello on the 17th.

Three daily precipitation records were broken during June at Astoria.

.89 inches was reported on the 10th. 1.31 inches was observed on the 11^th.

.81 inches accumulated on the 12th.

For June, precipitation is:

70 percent of normal (1961-1990) in the Columbia River above Coulee,

42 percent of normal at the Snake River above Ice Harbor, and 65 percent in the

Columbia River above The Dalles.

For the water supply season, precipitation is:

105 percent of normal (1961-1990) in the Columbia River above Coulee,

88 percent of normal at the Snake River above Ice Harbor, and 99 percent in the

Columbia River above The Dalles.
